Dr. Olshansky - one of the leading lights in the study of human longevity - will unveil results of the MacArthur Foundation's new research into an Aging Society, providing forecasts of life expectancy & population size by age, race & sex for the US between now and 2050. Olshansky's forecasts are based on a disease-specific model, illustrating how advances in medical technology & behavioral risk factors will influence survival. In addition, he'll describe the 1st published scientific evidence demonstrating how interventions to slow aging would influence the future course of mortality, life expectancy & population aging. Finally, he'll describe how existing forecasting models that rely on linear extrapolation & VBT tables may provide misleading estimates of life expectancy for insured populations.
